Grab works exactly as it does elsewhere in Southeast Asia: download the app, pin your location (GPS can drift near beaches and rice terraces, so double-check the pickup spot), and wait at a visible landmark. Local taxis are hailed curbside or found at dedicated ranks. Most drivers speak basic English and will use the meter if you-to-site trips aren't negotiated first. Both services cover the island's main corridor, Mataram to the Gilis in the north and down to Selong Belanak in the south. But availability thins after dark in rural areas. Choose Grab when you want door-to-door convenience, upfront pricing, and the ability to track your route, good for airport runs, late-night returns from beach clubs, or when you're carrying surfboards and want a larger car category.
